Magic Mouse Drivers for Windows Now Available

It’s kind of strange that Apple did not include any support for Magic Mouse in Windows. It’s only available exclusively for Mac users via Bluetooth. However, as expected some random guys from Uneasysilence have come out with a simple solution, and more information can be found here. The hack will allow the mouse gestures to work in Windows XP, all the way to 7. If you really love the Magic Mouse alot, and hope to use it on your PC, you can do it now.

Solving BSOD problem after installing Windows 7 on iMac 24″ (white)

After upgrading my iMac 24″ (white) from Win Vista to Win 7, I seem to have problem booting into the OS (BSOD), after its first reboot. However, I have discovered the following solution below and solve the BSOD problem (due to the graphics card problem), you may want to try it out if you have got the same problem as me:

  • After the BSOD, allow the iMac to restart with the Win7 install DVD in. You will get a message saying press any key to boot from CD, do this and you will go back in to the Win7 Installer.
  • Select you country and click next but don’t click the “install now” button, instead click Repair My Computer. You will be presented with a list (after some time) of windows installs on the iMac select the one you just did.
  • From the Repair options presented select command prompt navigate to the c:\windows\system32\drivers folder by typing
    c:
    cd windows
    cd system32
    cd drivers
  • Rename the broken driver file by typing: ren nvlddmkm.sys nvlddmkm.old
  • Close the command prompt and restart the computer, you should be able to continue with the setup. (Remember to download the latest Graphics Driver for Win 7 after first boot in)

Upgrading and downgrading of firmware for Airport Extreme and Time Capsule

Check out the first screencast I have done with QuickTime X, about how you can upgrade and downgrade the firmware on your Airport Extreme. It’s being uploaded to YouTube for faster access to more users, therefore the quality might not be that good. However, I have found that the ‘Annotation’ tool provided in YouTube, kinda useful and easy to use. Hopefully, it can aid in understanding the whole video.

Quick fix to IE8 display problem

Recently, I was browsing the web using IE8, and noticed there are quite a number of sites having some display problem with their websites’ layouts. This could possibly due to the optimizing techniques used in the coding, designed previously to cater to the non-standard compliant of IE6. And when recently, Microsoft decided to upgrade their IE browser to version 8, and this has created the display problem.

I have done some research online, and found out that the best way to solve this problem immediately, is to enter the following quick fix code in the web page: <meta http-equiv=”X-UA-Compatible” content=”IE=EmulateIE7″ />. This will help to notify IE8 to emulate the website to be displayed under the IE7 mode. However, I think the quick fix code should not be treated like a future standard, whereby designers continue to cater to IE6 standards, and make use of the quick fix code to emulate the browser in IE7 mode. We should abandone IE6 totally, and move on to a more standard compliant platform.

iTunes 7 and above: Creating and managing multiple libraries

So, you already have an iPod, and now you have just bought an iPhone and also an iPod nano. However, you realised that you can only have one library in your iTunes, and hope to create seperate libraries for different devices. Look no further, this function is just within iTunes, although Apple has not make it clear enough for the users to use this extra feature. So, all your need to do, is while you are launching iTunes 7 and above, just hold down the option key on your Mac (or shift key on Windows), you will then see a small pop-up window, giving the option to create a new library or choose the library you wanted to load. For iPhoto users, this is the same shortcut you would use if you wanted to manage multiple libraries in iPhoto.
